Rays Comeback Win Puts Them In Playoffs and Red Sox Out

 

The Boston Red Sox suffered a historic defeat and were left out of the playoffs with Atlanta Braves also failing to win a wild-card place. The Tampa Bay Rays and the St. Louis Cardinals managed to get to the playoffs with impressive wins against the New York Yankees and the Houston Astros, respectively. Pundits commented that the Rod Sox were not able to cope with the massive pressure on them and the team are not playing their game recently.

Four games in the final day of the season had been decisive and determined which teams are to get to this year’s playoffs. Tampa Bay was loosing 7-0 to the New York Yankees but managed to overcome this deficit in the eighth and ninth innings, winning the game in extra time after pinch-hitter Dan Johnson made two-out homer. The Rays won following a second homer by Evan Longoria and a line shot in the 12th inning.

The St. Louis Cardinals won 8-0 over the Houston Astros, extending their winning run to 22 wins in their final 30 games. Atlanta lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 in 13 innings which secured the Cardinals a place in the playoffs.
