Occupy Wall Street: Naomi Wolf Arrested

Author and feminist Naomi Wolf had been arrested for disobeying a police officer’s order to leave a sidewalk at an event in honor of Gov. Andrew Cuomo in New York City. Wolf has been invited as a guest to The Game Changer of the Year ceremony that took place on SoHo and failed to obey an order while passing along Occupy Wall Street protesters nearby. Demonstrators gathered to the event attempting to bring their concerns about economic inequality to Gov Cuomo.

Naomi Wolf Arrested

The protesters wrote down their demands and she tried to bring them to Gov. Cuomo in person but did not manage to find him. Later, she left the event for a business meeting outside where an officer told her that event organizers, Huffington Post, are permitted to control the sidewalk, while Wolf was aware that could not be in line with New York City’s regulations. A spokesman for the event told Naomi Wolf that demonstrators are permitted to protest as long as they were not obstructing foot traffic on the sidewalk.

The author of “Give Me Liberty: A Handbook For American Revolutionaries” took peacefullyto the sidewalk together with a dozen of Occupy Wall Street protesters but a police officer ordered the group to disperse and a few moments later Wolf and her partner were arrested. The NYPD declined to comment on the arrest, while a spokesperson for the event organizers told journalists they did not ask the police to disperse demonstrators or arrest anybody.

Wolf and film producer Avram Ludwig were released after spending a half hour in separate cells and both have been told they have been arrested because NYPD officers deemed it a safety issue.
