Chicago Marathon: Repeat Defenders

Marathon season is in full swing and runners train hard to compete in just one marathon a year sometimes. Most often though, the runners are professional competitive runners who look for the biggest and the best marathons around. Yesterday was the Hartford Marathon and today another set of runners headed into the big city for a run. The Chicago Marathon 2010 got underway this morning without a hitch and winners has been crowned.

The idea of running 26 miles at once doesn’t appeal to a lot of common place people but long distance runners are competitive and they come in droves. For that matter, to win any marathon is a feat that little every master. Winning the same marathon 2 years in a row ought to be considered an absolute phenomenon. However, in the Chicago Marathon 2010, both the male and female winner were repeat winners.

The men’s race was won by Sammy Wanjiru of Kenya in two hours, six minutes and 24 seconds. The female winner defended her win as well. Lily Shobukhova from Russia finished in 2 hours, twenty minutes and 25 seconds. The Chicago Marathon is one of the big ones winding through Grant Park and allowing the runners to enjoy some of the city’s beauty.
