FIFA World Cup: Qatar World Cup 2022

The 2010 World Cup has come and gone and now today FIFA announced who will host the next World Cups. Russia won the bid the host the 2018 World Cup. Qatar won the bid to host the 2022 World Cup over the United States despite the 130-degree heat and safety concerns. Now the buzz today revolves around the World Cup including the host countries of the World Cup 2018 and World Cup 2022.

Qatar World Cup 2022

The United States were one of five countries who bid for the 2022 World Cup and but unfortunately Qatar was chosen. There is definitely politics involved in FIFA’s decision but there is politics in every major event as well. This World Cup announcement is a big disappointment in Dallas since they would have been the host to the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Russia being awarded the World Cup in 2018 was not a big shocker but the World Cup 2022 being awarded to Qatar is one that the United States will not forget.

With MLS growing in popularity and since the World Cup has not been played in North America since 1994 the United States should have been awarded the 2022 World Cup and not Qatar. Qatar definitely played some politics in the outcome of FIFA’s decision planning to build air conditioned stadiums to avoid the 130-degree heat. For those of you who do not know, Qatar is a very very small country with a population smaller than Houston, Texas. The World Cup bids have been awarded and the World Cup in 2018 will be played in Russia while the World Cup 2022 will be hosted by Qatar instead of the U.S.

The United States definitely should have been chosen over Qatar to host the 2022 World Cup. I feel this is a slap in the face to U.S. soccer.
