Al Golden, Gus Malzahn Finding New Jobs

With the bowl games starting next week, teams that did not perform as well this year are looking to hire new head coaches. The 2 most noteworthy would be the Miami Hurricanes hiring Temple’s coach Al Golden, and Vanderbilt offering the job to current Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn. This year Auburn is coming off of their best season yet, by earning a place in the BCS Championship and their quarterback, Cam Newton, winning the Heisman trophy. Next year we could see both Al Golden and Gus Malzahn behind the benches of new teams.

Al Golden has been the coach for Temple since 2005. He lead the team to a bowl game appearance, back 2009, their best showing in 30 years. He began his coaching career back in 1993 in high school football before moving to the college level. At the age of 41, Al Golden holds a 26-32 record as a head coach.

Gus Malzahn is currently the offensive coordinator for the Auburn Tigers, a position he has held since 2008. Reports are circling that he has accepted an offer to become the head coach of the Vanderbilt Commodores. The Tigers have seen a great improvement in their offense since Malzahn joined the team. Gus Malzahn will have 1 game left with Auburn, when they play against Oregon in the BCS Championships on January 10.
