It’s a sad day today. A woman who is believed to be the inspiration for the poster “We can do it” or Rosie the Riveter has died. She was 86 year old when she died. The name of this woman is Geraldine Hoff Doyle.
Geraldine Hoff Doyle was doing hard labor at a factory when she was captured on camera. She was wearing her bandanna when a United Press photographer snapped her picture. This photo is said to be the inspiration behind the famous wartime poster. Geraldine was beautiful, tall and slender but still working hard at the metal stamping machine.
Her strong fight encouraged many other US women to put their nose to the grindstone and get things done. This was most likely one of the proudest moments in American history as the women banded together and supported the soldiers overseas. We are going to miss this lady but we are happy to have had her for 86 years. Good-bye Geraldine Hoff Doyle.
