The world has lost a lady with a very unique talent. Sunday June 9th the Jewish folk singer died after she was hospitalized with pneumonia. She was in her late 50s. The name of this lady is Debbie Friedman.
Debbie Friedman is also known as Deborah Lynn Friedman. She was born in NY but then at age 5 moved to Minnesota. When she went to a synagogue in Minnesota she recalled how dull it was and how it made her angry. Debbie Friedman decided that she was going to do something about it.
There were a lot of interesting songs that came out of her interest to make the synagogue more interesting. One of the most popular that you may have heard is “Mi Sheberach” which is a song of healing. This song is used by many different congregations. Debbie Friedman has even been at Carnegie Hall.
