The world still has not recovered from the horrible earthquake and tsunami that happened in Japan. Relief efforts are still pouring in and now a powerful earthquake has stroke Myanmar. So far one woman is believed to be dead and more could be confirmed. This earthquake in Myanmar was believed to have been felt by possibly 600,000 people.
The Myanmar earthquake happened in the northeastern part of Myanmar. The magnitude of the quake was a 6.8. The quake was felt in Bangkok which was a whole 480 miles south of the epicenter and building were reported to have swayed there. The U.S. Geological Survey said that the quake was six miles deep.
Television from Thailand showed people desperately running through the streets in their pajamas. There were two small aftershocks which measured 4.8 and 5.4 in magnitude. Thankfully there was no tsunami created because of the inland location of the quake. This earthquake in Myanmar is comparable in depth and magnitude to that of Haiti’s earthquake last year.
