Masters Leaderboard 2011: Rory McIlroy

The 2011 Masters began Thursday from Augusta National in Augusta, Georgia. 99 golfers started the day today and will continue tomorrow before the cut takes place. To make the cut golfers must be within 44 places of the leader or within 10 strokes of the top golfer. The Masters leaderboard 2011 saw some surprising golfers at the top after the first 18 holes.

The weather at Augusta on Thursday was warm with clear skies, and this is expected for the next 3 days. Last years Masters winner Phil Mickelson ended the day at 2 under par and tied for 14th. Tiger Woods ended his day tied for 24th at 1 under par. A top the Masters leaderboard 2011 are 2 golfers at 7 under par; Rory McIlroy and Alvaro Quiros.

The current leaders have never won at the Masters before. Rory McIlroy had his best result at the 2009 Masters where he finished tied for 20th, while Alvaro Quiros has competed in the Masters 2 times before and has never made the cut. Quiros who is golfing in group 16 will tee off at 10:41 am on Friday, while McIlroy in group 26 tees of at 12:42 pm. The golfers rounding out the top 5 on the Masters leaderboard 2011 are KJ Choi and Y.E. Yang both at 5 under, and Mark Kuchar and Ricky Barnes both at 4 under.
