It is hard to believe that a debate over whether we should fund killing innocent babies that do not have a choice is going to bring a government shutdown. The Congressional budget negotiations continue in Washington and lawmakers are reportedly trying to wrestle it out over funding for Planned Parenthood which is a major provider of abortion and “family planning” services. “This all deals with women’s health,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) told reporters in an exchange broadcast on CNN, the New York Times reported. Is it really?
There has been a large question with Republican lawmakers about government the funding of Planned Parenthood. They say that the government should not be in the business of supporting aborting of babies – even if it is indirectly. This organization receives government support even though the funds received are used for other purposes other than abortion so that they can make this a sort of loop hole. The defunding of Planned Parenthood would considerably cripple this operation.
Even though there is a huge controversy over abortion it is still a common procedure in the US. In the year 2008 alone there were 1.21 million abortions performed which means that about 40 percent of the unintended pregnancies that happen are now being terminated by the abortion procedure. Planned Parenthood makes about 37 percent of its revenue from abortions. There are many people that are up in arms over the killing of these innocent babies but there are just as many people that say that the mothers should have a choice. What do you think?
