Giants rookie Chad Jones injured in crash

The LSU star Chad Jones, drafted onto the New York Giants, had surgery Friday after an early morning accident. Jones’ SUV reportedly crashed into a pole. Jones’ agent Rocky Arceneaux said the extent of his injuries is not known at this time. He also said that Jones was in an alert state when admitted at the hospital.

It is not clear at this time what caused 21-year-old Chad Jones to lose control of his vehicle on the six-lane highway around 6:00 a.m. this morning. Jones was still in surgery in the early part of the afternoon. Two other male passengers were in the car with Jones and they were fine. Jones had to be extracted from the vehicle.

Chad Jones was a part of the LSU Tigers 2007 national championship team. He was a third round draft pick for the Giants as a safety. Jones, also a left-handed relief pitcher for the LSU 2009 baseball team, was drafted b the Milwaukee Brewers weeks after the Giants picked him in the NFL draft. An investigation is still underway and it is not yet known if speeding or alcohol were factors in the incident.
