Talladega Superspeedway: Aaron’s 499

This week’s NASCAR race is taking place right now from the Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama.  For those that want to watch the Aaron’s 499 you can tune into Fox on t.v. or check out the online coverage. The 188 lap  race will take about 3 hours to complete.  This week’s race is the first of 2 races to take place at the Talladega Superspeedway for the 2011 Sprint Cup Series of races.

The current Sprint Cup Series leader is Carl Edwards. He is looking to gain more points to increase his lead a top the leader board. Last year’s Sprint Cup champion, Jimmie Johnson, is in fourth place in the standings going into today’s race. The Aaron’s 499 at Talladega is the 8th of 36 races to be run this year for the Sprint Cup Series.

Last year’s winner of the Aaron’s 499 was Kevin Harvick. He has been the winner of 2 races already this year; Martinsville and Fontana. The weather for today’s race has been optimal with sunny skies and warm temperatures. We will see shortly who captured the checkered flag this week at Talladega.
