Talladega: Big Wreck

The number 2 Dodge was sent sailing in front of a pack of cars at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday and it appears that Kurt Busch was the cause of the wreck. This wreck occurred in turn 3 on lap 90. Flames were shooting out from under David Ragan’s car (number 6) in the 3rd turn while Brad Keselowski and Marcos Ambrose crashed. Seems like a pretty exciting time at Talladega.

talladega“It caught fire and there was a lot of black smoke,” Kahne said. “I saw the number 2 car go right and then it started going left.” After being evaluated in the infield care center Ragan, Bayne and Kahne were released. “I’m fine. I actually didn’t really even get in that bad of a wreck,” Kahne said. “I sucked up a little bit of black smoke, but that was it. I stink, too.” Bayne was hit a little harder however.”That was one of the harder hits I’ve taken,” he said, “just because it was so much of a frontal impact across the track, off the apron, all the way to the wall.”

Nascar commented on the Talladega action by saying:

“A bunch of cars which had been up front are now off track in Turn 3. Kasey Kahne’s car is on fire, Trevor Bayne is climbing out of his car, David Ragan suffered some damage and so did Jeff Burton. Replays show Kurt Busch turned Brad Keselowski to start the pileup, the second of two cautions in which Busch played a role.”

It appeared that Kahne and his Red Bull number 4 car attempted to make it Pit Road but this did not happen and the on-course firefighters came to assist him.

Things like this are exactly why Busch was named in 2006 as one of the most hated athletes in sports.
