oklahoma city bombingFederal prosecutors said that Army vet Timothy McVeigh had planned the bombing to get revenge for the deadly standoff between the FBI and the Branch Davidians in Waco, TX. This had killed more than 70 people exactly two years before this attack – April 19, 1993. McVeigh was convicted on federal murder and conspiracy charges in 1997 and put to death in 2001. His friend and army buddy Terry Nichols was convicted on federal and state bombing-related charges and is now serving multiple life sentences behind bars in a federal prison.

Before the attack on September 11,2001 this was the most destructive act of terrorism on American soil. As a result the US government passed legislation designed to increase the protection around federal buildings so that this would not happen again. 60 domestic terrorism plots were foiled due to preventive measure between 1995 and 2005. We will always remember the victims of the Oklahoma City bombing and pray for them when we do.
