Restrepo: Tim Hetherington Killed

On Wednesday April 20th the news came that Tim Hetherington, co-director of Oscar nominated war documentary Restrepo had been killed in Misratah, Libya. Hetherington was a journalist, photographer, artist, filmmaker and a friend. He was in Libya to cover the fight between Omar Kadafi’s troops and Libyan rebels. He will be greatly missed.

restrepoRestrepo is a great work of art that was put together by Hetherington and many will remember him for this work. This is a feature-length documentary that chronicles the deployment of a platoon of US soldiers in Afghanistan’s Korengal Valley. It is not advised for small children to watch as it is very traumatic. The film is named after the outpost that the movie focuses on.

The outpost got the name Restrepo because of a platoon medic that was killed in action. This spot was considered one of the most dangerous postings in the US military. The only goal of this film was to make the viewers feel like they had just experienced a 90 minute deployment. The previews alone were enough to shock you.
