ST Louis Tornado: April 23

Yesterday (April 22nd) there was a ST Louis Tornado at the airport. American and Southwest airlines were checking for damaged planes. Flights had to be cancelled on Saturday a day after the tornado damaged the airport. The ST Louis tornado caused significant damage to two planes.

Spokesman Ed Martelle said two other planes besides for the two that were significantly damaged had light damage. Those planes should be able to fly by the end of the day. One plane that was landing during the tornado was hit by crosswinds of 80mph. That plane is being checked.

Marilee McInnis spokeswoman for Southwest Airlines said that one of the planes were damaged by a baggage loading conveyor belt that was pushed by the wind. Southwest has canceled all ST Louis flights through late Saturday afternoon. American however will not be able to fly out because of the ST Louis tornado until at least Monday morning.
