Mary Tyler Moore: Brain Surgery To Remove Benign Tumor

There have been rumors in recent years coming out of tabloids saying that actress Mary Tyler Moore had been diagnosed with a benign tumor which was called maningioma in the membranes that cover her brain. No one really know whether to take them serious or not but today People magazine first reported that the 74-year-old star’s publicist announced that Mary has “decided to proceed with [a] fairly routine procedure” to have it removed. We have no word yet on when the surgery will be done.

She played a 30-something single woman working as a local news producer in Minneapolis. She also played the role of Laura Petrie, the wife of Dick Van Dyke on The Dick Van Dyke Show.

Besides for tv sitcoms Mary Tyler More has also appeared in a number of films with the most notable being 1980′s Ordinary People for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress. Moore has also been active in charity work and even in some political causes. Since the procedure is very routine there is little worry and Moore is expected to be back on her feet again soon after the surgery.
