Victoria Day 2011: Victoria Day Stores Open

Monday May. 23 is one of Canada’s statutory holidays and it leaves many Canadians wondering what stores are open on Victoria Day 2011. You will find that most if not all of the big box stores will be closed on Victoria Day. However their garden centers might not be since the Victoria Day weekend is one of the biggest for Canadians to start their gardens and plant flowers. As of right now most Walmart garden centers will remain open for Victoria Day although it is best to call to be 100% sure your location will be open.

For those of you who are wondering what Victoria Day is all about it is known as the start of cottage season in Canada. It is also known as the May 24 weekend with plenty of festivities, party’s and fireworks to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Birthday. Many might not know this but it is also meant to celebrate the reigning Canadian sovereigns official birthday. Since there are very few stores open on Victoria Day thousands of Canadians head to the lake for camping and cottage activities that usually involve ice cold beer and fireworks.

Some of the other stores that are open this Victoria Day weekend are Shoppers Drug Mart, Rexall Pharma Plus and some other big pharmacy’s. The LCBO and Beer Store are always closed on the May 24 long weekend which usually causes several long line-ups two and three days before this stat holiday. Some of the Victoria Day stores that are open include most tourist designated shops including Square One, Vaughan Mills, Eaton Centre and the Pacific Mall are open for the Toronto, Canada area. If you are looking for fun things to do the Toronto Zoo, Royal Ontario Museum, Ontario Science Centre, CN Tower, Canada‚Äôs Wonderland, Ontario Place and Centreville will remain open on Victoria Day 2011.
