Summer Solstice 2011: Winter Solstice Turns To Summer

Today in the northern hemisphere is known as summer solstice or the first day of summer. It has been a long cold, wet wait for a lot of people after the 2011 winter solstice. The sun will hit it’s most northern position today giving all our northern friends the longest day of the year, this will begin to happen just after lunch today.

People in the southern hemisphere will now be experiencing the 2011 winter solstice and it will be their start of winter, and the shortest day of the year. In the winter, people tend to turn up their heating to keep warm, and in the summer, people turn on the air conditioning to keep cool. Does it make any sense? People wait for the summer solstice for hot weather, then they want to cool off.

Yes, summer finally is here, the gardening, the swimming, the beaches, the picnics, the baseball, the soccer, the golf, the long hot days of summer. Today is going to be a fairly, hot, humid day for the first day of summer in most regions. Get out and enjoy the sunshine, before you know it the summer solstice for 2011 will be gone and the winter solstice will once again be upon you.
