With Wimbledon 2011 nearing the half way point let’s take a look to see who is moving on in the tournament. On the ladies side 7th seed Serena Williams, last years winner, won her second round match in 3 sets. After losing the first set 6-3 to unseeded Simona Halep she came back to win the next 2 quite easily 6-2, and 6-1, she will face off against Maria Kirilenko in the third round. Her sister Venus had an easy third round match against Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez winning 6-0,6-2.
Maria Sharapova who is ranked 5th at Wimbledon 2011 was victorious in her second round match against Laura Robson and will now face Klara Zakopalova in the third round. Over on the mens side 7th seeded David Ferrer won his match in 5 sets. American Andy Roddick was not so lucky losing in straight sets to Feliciano Lopez of Spain ending his run at the Wimbledon 2011 Championships.
Another surprise loss on the ladies side this time was number 2 seed Vera Zvonareva losing in straight sets. The tennis has not been without rain delays over in England, however matches being held on center court have been able to continue under the covering. After the third round of action both the ladies and mens side will be narrowed down to 16 players, all looking for the chance to win Wimbledon 2011.
