Transformers: Dark Side Of The Moon Has Best Opening of The Year
The “Transformers” robots have been very popular but have they lost some of their money-making power? Even though the opening of the movie did not rake in as much as the last installment in 2009 it had the biggest opening weekend domestically so far this year.
“Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon” took in $97.4 million domestically in its first weekend which was down from the $109 million that “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” took in on its first weekend in 2009.
The new movie opened Tuesday night and has pulled in $162 million domestically through Sunday and is expected to take in $180.9 million domestically by the end of the Fourth of July weekend Monday.
Overseas earnings added $210 million and gave the movie a worldwide total of $372 million through Sunday. The company estimates that “Dark of the Moon” will reach $22.5 million at IMAX theaters worldwide by Monday.
