“The time has come to hand on the privilege of high office,” a statement be the congressman reads. “I cannot care for my family the way I wish while serving in Congress and fighting these very serious allegations,” he added. The David Wu sex scandal is the fourth in a row for Congress in 2011, after Republicans Chris Lee, John Ensign and Democrat Anthony Weiner left their top positions during the year. He continues to deny any wrongdoing, calling his behavior “poor judgment” while revealing he did nothing illegal.

The Taiwan-born politician graduated from Stanford, took medical classes at Harvard and got a Yale degree in law, before he settled in Portland working for a federal judge there. David Wu admitted that most other countries would not allow a foreign-born to enter the highest level in national politics and thanked his voters before he resigned.
