Scarlett Johansson: Declined Invite to the Marine Corps Ball

Recently, the buzz around town was that Mila Kunis, with help from Justin Timberlake, accepted an invitation to the Marine Corps Ball. While this may have given soldiers the idea that any celebrity they ask will say yes, this is not the case. Kunis and Timberlake’s “Friends with Benefits” co-star Scarlett Johansson declined an invite to the Marine Corps Ball. Johansson was asked by Sgt. Dustin L. Williams only to be let down, but at least she did it with class.

Scarlett Johansson Marine Ball Invite

Scarlett Johansson declined the invite to the Marine Corps Ball by writing a statement that while she was very moved by Williams’ invitation she could not accept it because she already had plans. Johansson stated “Not only does Sgt. Williams deserve recognition for his bravery, selflessness and dedication to the United States and its people, but he also displays a cheeky talent for film making.”

I admire Scarlett Johansson for the way she handled this for I too was in the military, U.S. Navy Submarine Service (POLARIS) for a brief time and understand both sides. Just as the military have their job to do so do celebrities with their busy work schedules. Scarlett is a very lovely and talented young woman and I’m always wishing the best for her. Thank you Scarlett and Sgt. Williams for making us proud.
