PGA Championship 2011 Leaderboard: Day 1 at the PGA Championship

Tiger Woods, former number one golf player in the world, is expected top be atop the 93rd U.S. PGA Championship and eventually top PGA Championship Day 1 leaderboard. The final major of the year has started at Atlanta Athletic Club with American Craig Stevens ending in the middle of the fairway in his opening shot on Thursday. He scored par while other players in his group, American John Rollins and Zimbabwean Brendon de Jonge, bogeyed the hole in a short succession.

PGA Championship Leaderboard 2011

All eyes are on four times winner Tiger Woods who hinted he is capable of topping PGA Championship Day 1 leaderboard, after he returned to the course following a series of leg injuries and problems in his private life. In the first rounds, the former world number one played in a group with Padraig Harrington and American Davis Love III. Tiger Woods got off to a great start but then fell apart hitting the water on 15 and never regained his composure.

Winners of this year’s first three major tournaments have been brought together in a group comprising Darren Clarke, winner of the British Open, Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland, who won the U.S. Open and South African Charl Schwartzel, who managed to win the Masters. All of them also are safe bets to lead the pack and top PGA Championship Day 1 leaderboard.

Players will suffer from heat and humidity during Day 1, while a mix of sunny and cloudy conditions is expected at Atlanta Athletic Club, according to weather forecasts.
